Laser Technologies used by Dr. William Boothe
The Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center offers the latest and most advanced technologies available in the field of refractive eye surgery today. LASIK and INTRALASIK procedures involve removing microscopic amounts of tissue in the cornea to help refocus light on the retina and improve clarity of vision. Ensuring the sharpest visual acuity requires the assistance of specialized systems that provide incredible precision in excising corneal tissue.
Dr. William Boothe, the founder and chief surgeon of the clinic, continuously seeks to acquire new laser systems that hold promise for improving results for his patients. A few of the top technologies available onsite at the center include the following:
The Allegretto Wavelight Eye-Q system ensures the utmost clarity in vision with the fewest side effects—all with incredible speed, safety and precision. The system employs a feature, the “Perfect Pulse Technology,” that controls and calibrates laser energy pulses three times before reaching your eye—a measure that protects corneal tissue from sustaining any damage from the laser energy. The Perfect Pulse Technology also tracks the smallest involuntary eye movements during a procedure, making as many as 200 adjustments per second to ensure the highest possible accuracy. The Allegretto Wavelight system also uses a Wavefront Optimized tool that creates a 3-dimensional map of your eye to identify any aberrations.
The VISX Star S4 is an advanced laser system that enables refractive eye procedures to be completed in less time, providing patients with greater comfort. In addition to faster procedures, the VISX Star S4 produces a smoother corneal surface and shortened healing times for the patient. The laser system also contains a feature known as the 3-dimensional ActiveTrak system, which monitors your eye movements in real time during the procedure—horizontally, vertically and up and down.
The Wavefront Mapping technology uses a low-energy beam to detect aberrations in your eye prior to the procedure. The results from this highly customized map can be fed into the excimer laser as a guide, allowing Dr. Boothe to administer treatment that is tailored precisely for your eye. This procedure is known as Wavefront CustomVue INTRALASIK.
The Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center also provides procedures for replacing the natural lens in your eye with an intraocular lens (IOL). Dr. Boothe can provide three different types of artificial implants: AcrySof ReSTOR, Crystalens and Verisyse.
AcrySof ReSTOR – a permanent artificial lens that replaces the natural lens once it is removed during cataract surgery. The Acrysof ReSTOR lens has an apodized, diffractive design that can manage light energy and help focus that energy properly on the retina to produce clear vision.
Crystalens – a unique artificial lens that uses the natural eye muscle to focus on objects at a range of distances.
Verisyse – a removable plastic lens that can be inserted into the eye to improve vision while allowing the patient to retain their natural lens. This lens enables the patient to continue using the natural muscle to focus on objects near and far while improving visual clarity over all. This implant is ideal for patients whose cornea may be too thin to qualify for LASIK surgery.
